Is it possible to get from Seville to Tarifa to Tangiers in a day and actually see Tangiers?

It's possible but not advisable. We lived in Seville for six months in 2004 and spent two nights in Tangier with out 11 yo daughter. Car from center Seville to Tarifa is about 90 minutes to two hours, depending on how fast you drive and time of day you travel. You can catch ferry from Tarifa to Tangier no problem (this is smart, we went from Algeciras and it took forever each way, mostly b/c of backed up traffic in Tangier docks and delay in boat departure). However, once you are in Tangier you will want to be there overnight not just to have more time to see stuff, but also to be there in the evening when it really feels exotic. We stayed at the Ramada on waterfront; you can walk to it from pier, and to Casbah, etc. Ramada rooms are nothing special but balconies overlook ocean and public spaces and restaurant are surprisingly nice. Restaurant also has good food (cous cous, fish etc.) Go to Continental Hotel if you want funkier and more atmospheric accommodation; you can't miss it, it is at top of hill overlooking pier. Otherwise, have a drink at its great terrace bar. Continental also has a huge store owned by Jimmy, who also manages the hotel. He is a real character and will not gouge you on purchases. I cannot overstate how different Tangier is from Europe. Once you go to the trouble of getting there, stay put as long as you can. We also did half day trip to Asilah with nice taxi driver. Worth every penny since Asilah is much more "liberal" than Tangier right now and difference in dress, attitudes is self-evident.
