cafe/coffee/restaurants near melia hotel

Heading to Granada and staying at the Melia hotel. Are there any cafe/coffee shops close by? Any restaurants that could introduce one to the flavors of Spain? First trip to this beautiful country and what better way than through food? Not really looking for expensive or extravagant, but more local flare for the budget minded. Will be in the country for awhile so trying to ease in slowly. Gracias!

Good restaurant:

Restaurante Paco Martin

Carrera del Genil, 38-40

Tel: 958-229-380

This restaurant is a big, elegant, and beautiful first class restaurant. There is plenty of light inside the restaurant and the walls are decorated with paintings of flowers. There are modern stained glass windows and everything is very clean. The waiters and waitresses are friendly and know how to serve properly. The food is wonderful and is tradicional Andalusian cuisine presented beautifully. The "revuelto de trigueros" is an asparagus omelet that is exceptional. There is a menu of the day which is a good value. Moderate prices.

You will get great Coffee at any local bar.

For a mid-morning snack try Curros - long donut type fritters for dunking into Coffee or the traditional very thick Chocolate.

For Breakfast nothing beats a Tostada con Tomate y Aceite - Toasted Baguette topped with Pureed Tomato and drizzled with Olive Oil - some come ready prepared others come plain and you are given the Oil and Tomato to apply yourself.

Just follow the locals into bars/restaurants and you won´t go wrong. Ofyten the more basioc a place looks the better the food is.

Hotel Malia is right in the centre of everything, so there is no shortage of choice.

Camploady could be unintentionally setting you up for one of those funny lost in translation gaffes. If you ask for "curro" in a cafe the waiter might get you to start washing dishes.

Curro = Job / Work

CHurros = delicious treat for breakfast. Most famous place to try churros is just around the corner from Melia in Plaza Mariana Pineda on the terrace of Cafe Futbol.

For lunch or dinner, your best option close to Melia is Calle Navas, 3 min walk, my favourite place a long the street is called Navas 14, where they do great traditional Granadino tapas.

Haha. One of the few Spanish words I DO know thanks to 3 children who have taken Spanish! I keep trying.......

Thanks for the other suggestions. Heard she has landed and is in love with the city already. She was setting off to explore! Glad she left a day early as Central PA where we are from is in state of Emergency and roads are closed!!!!

I will pass this on to her to experience!

Oops! As someone who has Churros each week on market day I should be able to spell it properly. Must have been having a senior moment there. Anyway, they are delicious whichever way you spell it!

I recommend "Loft" located on Calle San Anton, 100 m from the hotel. Many variety of breakfasts, continental or typically Spanish. Just opposite the hotel, the cafe-restaurant "La Castellana". Behind the hotel is Calle Navas, with many bars where they usually breakfast on City hall employees, which is next

@GranadaInfo,

It would appear that you are so busy pushing your own website in every post that you do not bother to actually read the thread. (see cafe fútbol)

As for the original question it stated:

"Any restaurants that could introduce one to the flavors of Spain?"

And you are pushing a very second rate Pizzeria.

I could continue and get harsh on your other posts, but it is the weekend so I will refrain.

Next to the hotel, just two streets on the left hand side, there is a place called Hoces decorated with old pictures of bullfighters. The place is not cheap but they serve some great typical fried fish and a fantastic ensaladilla rusa.
