Good hotel for a home base?

Hi there. My partner and I will be in Torremolinos for 4 days this summer as part of a 2 week tour of Spain. We are looking for a nice hotel in Torremolinos to serve as our home base while we explore the area of Malaga, visit the Alhambra, and Tangier. We won't be spending entire days at the beach and are not really looking for a beach resort but it would be nice to relax and go for a swim after a long day of touring. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Will you be hiring a car or relying on public transport?

Thanks for the reply. We plan on using public transportation throughout the trip.

Then you may take a look at Blue Sea Cervantes.

You will need to decide whether you want to be up in Town ('up' being then operative word, the town centre is high up from beach/paseo level) or down near the sea. During the summer most happens down at beach level.

Have a look at the Hotel Royal Costa in Los Álamos - it's very close to Los Álamos station for trains into Málaga etc., and is only a few mins flat walk away from the beach. Also, if you're returning after days out there are some excellent lively chiringuitos along that stretch of beach for interesting evenings out!

If you are only spending 4 days in the Torremolinos area, I'd forget the Tangier trip. From reviews on the forums its a very long day for not much true Morroccan experience, there are some wonderful places nearer to Torremolinos, like Ronda, that are worth visiting. If you do a search for Tangier or Morroco on the forums you will find lots of threads and posts on the forums.

Thanks for the advice. We are not definite about Tangier for the reasons you provided. Ronda looks like an excellent excursion though. We will probably check it out!

Thanks for the hotel suggestions. They look really nice and centrally located. They may be a bit much for us as we are not looking for an all-inclusive resort and won't be spending days at the pool. Anything smaller/quainter you might suggest?

Have a look at the Hotel Miami in La Carihuela - it's a lovely small hotel in a traditional Andalucían house (originally built for Picasso's niece). They'll do you B & B, you have all the great traditional restaurants and chiringuitos of La Carihuela minutes away. Whilst the walk to Montemar station is uphill, it isn't far or there are buses to a wide variety of places available at the top of the road.

El Pozo hotel in the town centre gets good reviews as does Hotel Cabello in La Carihuela.
