Hi Wendy,

The Bajondillo Apartments are just round the headland from La Carihuela, probably around 20 minutes walk along the paseo to the village itself.

Your nearest train station is Torremolinos itself, from there it's about a ten minutes (downhill) walk, the Bajondillo Apartments are down on the beach below the eastern end of the town centre.

The barrio that is the most traditional (and very local, not many tourists about) is Calvario, up a hill towards the Town Hall (Ayuntamiento). Lots of tiny bars and shops on the ground floor of small old cottages, excellent for food etc.

thanks for your reply, I have read about a "tapas" event starting on 10th May what is this? is it some sort of competition. Do you also know what times the trains start in the morning heading back to malaga?

Any other local advice would be good, I want to see as much of the real spain as possible not feel like being in the UK with the sun.

Many thanks

06.33 is the first one back to Malaga - here is the website:

renfe.com/EN/…index.html

Just input the information required except the last bit and you will see the times.

I have replied to your question in the Ruta thread - there is a link that contains all the information, but in short as NSG explains above, it is a 16 day run of bars offering tapas and drinks and you try and visit them all and get stamped at each participating venue, prizes on offer etc.

Here is the thread for last year that contains some useful info and the Facebook page details.

Wendy, you won't feel like you're in the UK with sun anywhere in Torremolinos really, it has changed massively over the last 15 years and many British people's view of it is very out of date. Most of the visitors these days are Spanish and the bars and restaurants reflect this. Of course we still have British visitors, as well as Dutch and (increasingly) French.

If you look around the little streets behind the Bajondillo apartments there are some great little bodegas for a cold beer and a tapa, La Carihuela is the main gastronomic centre, with lots of excellent restaurants and chiringuitos - seafood is the speciality here but there are plenty of other options too.

You have to go all the way along the paseo to Montemar-Bajo (the very last part of Torremolinos, on the border with Benalmádena, near the Marina) to get a flavour of old-skool 70s Brit Torremolinos and even there it's changing.

Make sure you do at least one day/evening trip into Malaga City - masses to see, do and shop, and it's a great contrast to suddenly find yourself in a large Andalucían working city after a short (20 min) train journey.
