We go to Montemar every few weeks&it is fantastic. It is like a little oasis. There are restaurants for every taste(Spanish/chinese/Indian/British,).Too many bars&lots of entertainment, but very relaxed and peacefull.Beautiful veiws over the prom/beach&sea.Only 15mins from airport&10mins walk from Benalmadena Marina.New hotel(Torres first5*hotel!) not a problem if you stay overlooking sea.Do you want S/C or hotel?Let me know&will recommend.Forgot!it is also bloody cheap.SanMiguel@ 1euro/pint.ChinaCity serves superb food@set menu is less than 6euro(3courses).Great Spanish restuarants:SpanishGarden/ElTrillo/TheIvy/Andalusia.Great English bars for food@drink:HalfMoon/Caribe(1euro/pt)/Browns/MrJeeves etc).Give it a go.

Thank you Oscar for speedy reply with great info. Regarding accommodation, we have been offered, but not yet booked, what seems a nice apartment on Calle Francisco De Quevedo, do you know the area? The apartment is in Santa Cristina block. As I said, we have visited Torre before and stayed at the Belplaya and from there had many walks along prom and have an idea that Montemar is behind Pez Espada? Really appreciate your help. Jan

Montemar is the next beach area east of the Benalmadena Marina, just inside the Torremolinos district. The Spanish Garden is a top restaurant, try Thursday night for the Lobster Special. Almost next door is Baileys Bar , pop in around 10.00 pm and watch Ricky Lavazza's show. There are also a few Irish bars, it is almost a little Dublin, so the Guiness should be good.

Calle Fran/de Quevedo is way up the back of Montemar(behind hotel Marina Sur). You will need donkeys to get to beach and back(not quite that bad!).We wouldnt entertain staying so far out.If you are looking at s/c try either the Buensol or EcuadorPark. Both are virtually on beach&right in the middle of everything.Depends what you want. They are not luxurious but are adequate. We stay in both(depending which is cheapest)and find them great cos you only sleep in them.In January they should be less than £150/week for a one bed apt that will sleep 4people.Bloody cheap! If you fancy a hotel, try the Barracuda, same area,on beach&food excellent.Probably£200/week for two(£100each).Book thru travelrepublic.co.uk or wshtravel.com.Both are reliable&cheapest. We are in Montemar in january.Cant wait.Let us know what you decide to do.

Hello Brucey,

Do take a stroll to the marina. Just follow the road round. There are several bars which eventually become nightclubs (don't know your age) but are great for just watching the world go by. We aim for the Maracas but they often change ownership and names change. Whilst not cheap, they're good to start from, for an evening.

Just carry on around the corner and you'll come across 'Pinocho', a typical italian restaurant which could be anywhere. -- you'll know what to expect.

Regards

Anne
