Costa Del Sol - can’t decide where to stay

Looking for a bit of guidance on best place to stay comparing Marbella / Estepona / Puerto Banus/ Fuengirola / Torremolinos. Couple late 40s with a 20 year old son. Preferably All Inclusive but we still like to have a few meals out. Minimum 4*. Planning to go in July. Any recommendations appreciated. Thanks in advance

Marbella is the most upscale resort in Spain. It has a population of 140,000 and about 30% of them are foreigners. It enjoys a microclimate with an average annual temperature of 19 °C, with 320 days of sunshine a year. The La Concha mountain beside it protects it from bad weather.

Marbella Pueblo is downtown Marbella between the Plaza de los Naranjos, Calle Aduar and Calle Alcantarilla. It is the old part of Marbella and is like a typical white town with whitewashed houses, narrow streets, and adorned with many flower pots. It is quite beautiful, with very clean streets and no graffiti. There are many new small stores in the area that make shopping very pleasant.

A good hotel downtown is the Hotel El Fuerte, one of the oldest hotels in the city. It has beautiful gardens and is on the beach and beside the Paseo Maritimo, which has about 50 restaurants and bars. A very good restaurant there is La Barca (Avenida Duque de Ahumada, 15). Use Booking.com to look for other hotels.

There is a very large shopping mall called La Cañada, and this is one of the largest in Andalusia. Between downtown Marbella and Puerto Banus there is a stretch known as the Golden Mile (actually 7 km), with expensive 5 star hotels and expensive homes. Puerto Banús has a marina where one can see large yachts and very expensive stores. A very good store there is El Corte Ingles, and this has parking. Everything is more expensive in Puerto Banus than downtown Marbella.

Marbella stretches about 30 kilometers along the coast. The best place to stay is downtown. If does not stay downtown, one may need a car because buses are not frequent along the A7 highway. To reach Marbella there is a bus from Malaga Airport that goes to the Marbella Bus Station. From there one can take a taxi to one’s hotel.

Best Sights:

1. Plaza de los Naranjos (Orange Square) - Has many stores and restaurants.

2. Avenida del Mar - Has Dali statues.

3. Puerto Banus - Home of large yachts and very expensive stores.

4. Church of La Encarnacion - Beautiful church near the Plaza de los Naranjos.

5. Parque de La Alameda - Beautiful small park downtown.

6. Paseo Maritimo - A walkway beside the beach downtown containing many restaurants and bars.

Estepona is very nice but might be a bit quiet for your son.

Be care full on the location of your hotel. Some tagged as Estepona are way, way out of town.

There are no 4 star in the town it's self.

If you have a car ( you might as well as the cost of a transfer both ways will cost almost as much) and want to do some day trips Estepona is a good choice.

How long have you got?

Why not have a two centre holiday . A week in Estepona followed by a week in La Carihuela. There are some good hotels inLa Carihuela and it's on a very long passeo between Benalmadena and Torremolinos proper.

You are more likely to find a centrally located AI in Torremolinos or Marbella.

Try using booking.com to search for a hotel that has your requirements (use the filters) or here on TA hotel search for the areas you are looking at.

You will soon be able to see if there are any hotels which meet your criteria in any given place..
