Trekking in the Pyrenees

Hi

We have 3 weeks at the end of September (starting from the 23th) and we would like to trek in the Pyrenees for a couple of days and then do several parts of the Camino de Santiago.

We are not limited to any part of the Pyrenees nor to any specific trek.

We are looking for a nice 4-5 trek with great view , with moderate difficulty (for a reference , we did the Annapurna last year).

We would really appreciate if someone can assist us with planning:

1. What is the weather in this period of the year?

2. Any recommended routes?

Thanks

Tapiro

Hello NTapiro,

I can recommended the "Route of the Cathars", is a touristic trail between the Sanctuary of Queralt in Berga (Catalonia, Spain) and the Castle of Montsegur (Ariège, France).

You will found more information in: http://www.camidelsbonshomes.com/ing/ing.htm

NTapiro, Did you find some good options? We have 2-3 days and are looking for a trek in the Pyrenees. Would likely do it with a tour company as we will not have any of our own gear. Appreciate any ideas! We are going September 10th. Thanks.

Yes , we are thinking of 2 options:

1. Trekking in d'Aigüestortes national park (Spain side). For more information http://www.carrosdefoc.com/en/

2. part of the GR10 (France side): a weeklong section is the 82 miles from Ste.-Engrace east to Cauterets.

For 2-3 days , the first option is better.

Does anyone familiar with the second option, Ste.-Engrace east to Cauterets.?

Hi,

Usually September is still very nice. In the Pyrenees I keep recommending the Faja routes in the Valley of Ordesa (Huesca, Aragon). Ordesa in the National park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido is one of the most charming valleys in the Pyrenees and the character of these routes is very special. First you climb up a few hundred meters and then you follow the Faja path along the cliffs.

See the route descriptions in English, maps, GPS waypoints, driving instructions, road maps and thousands of quality photographs: www.topwalks.net/en/ordesa_monte_perdido.htm

The Valley of Chistau (Huesca, Aragon) is another favourite of mine. It is famous for its ibon routes. As an example see the route of four lagoons: topwalks.net/en/…ibon_millars_leners.htm

But there is a lot to choose from in this area.

By the way - are the ordesa walks good/safe to go without a guide during September? We are 2 recreational hikers that are reasonably fit. Not sure if these trails require any special equipment (which we will not have). Thanks again.

Thanks you tripsntips for your help..

For a nice 4-5 days trek , moderate difficulty and sleeping in Refugios (we prefer to skip on the tent this time) , what should we choose?

It seems that your links point to a day treks..

Maybe you or someone else can assist..
