Dusseldorf airport lodging?

It has been many years since we have traveled to Germany, but we are considering taking an LTU flight to Dusseldorf from USA. Was wondering where the airport is located in relation to the city and whether there would likely be "Zimmer Frie" type lodgings available in the area.? MY partner is second generation German and would like to practice his language skills in a small family owned lodging if possible. We eventually are thinking of going via train to Amsterdam but would kike to experience Dusseldorf without having to stay in an airport hotel. How far is the airport from the city?

Arriving in Düsseldorf you are right in the middle of the largest conurbation in Germany (3x Berlin), so small rural type lodgings are not what you would expect. On the other hand there are a lot of "Pensionen" which you should contact via the city's tourism office. The airport is about 10 km to the north of Düsseldorf right on the main train line between Düsseldorf and Duisburg and has it's own station with very frequent trains.

DB timetable

From: DUS

To: D

S-Bahn needs 12 min to the Hauptbahnhof (main railway station) from the airport. Single ticket to everywhere in Düsseldorf is EUR 2,10. Mini group day ticket (2-5 persons) is EUR 10,60.
