We have a 6 hour layover at the Dusseldorf airport in May

We have a 6 hour layover at the Dusseldorf airport in May. We are 4 adults. Can we reserve/grab a tour from the airport to the town? Any referrals for tours/guides? Are there taxis at the airport that we can maybe have to take us around the city and back? If so approximate cost for that? Any other suggestions?

Thank you.

Please take a look at "duesseldorf-tourismus.de/en/…" for a list of guided tours. There are always plentiful taxis at the airport. The ride into town will cost about 25 Euro and take about 12 to 15 minutes. I would suggest you skip the tour and instead take a self guided walking tour. You do not say what time of day you are arriving, but in general I would ask the taxi driver to take you to Burgplatz.

"The mighty castle of the Count of Berg and the later Dukes of Jülich - Kleve - Berg stood at this place. Nowadays, a former side tower of a later baroque palace is all that remains.

The palace burned down in 1872, the ruins were completely demolished in 1888. Since the opening of the Rhine embankment tunnel (1995), Burgplatz - awarded a prize as one of the most beautiful squares of post-war Germany - is again situated directly on the Rhine.

The old castle tower houses the SchifffahrtMuseum (shipping museum), which shows 2000 years of navigation on the Rhine."

Then walk down along the Rhine toward the large Rhine tower and the harbor area. From there retrace your steps back to Burgplatz, which is on the edge of Altstadt (Old Town). Have a lunch or coffee somewhere in Altstadt, suggest Zicke for coffee or anywhere else you come upon, and if lunch or dinner time then Zum Schiffchen at Haffenstrasse 5 in Altstadt. Walk through Altstadt, down Koenigsallee where all of the shops are, have a cake at Heinemann's if you have time, and go back to the airport.
