Too old for youth hostel?

My wife and I will be traveling with our young adult children (21 and 17), staying in Cologne for 2 nights. I'm intrigued with the youth hostel Koln-Riehl for its location near the Mulheimer Brucke (I'll be running in a half marathon which starts at the bridge) and a place to park our rental car. I thought the atmosphere might appeal to the kids. While they don't explicitely state an appropriate age limit, I have a feeling we might not fit in since we are in our early 40's. Is this really an issue or would we be fine?

Official (DJH) hostels market heavily to families all over the country. German hostels are no longer designed around the needs of backpackers - it used to be that priority was given to hikers - and are no longer 20+ bed dorm facilities but more like hotels with mostly 2-4-bed rooms. You shouldn't stick out at all.

I don´t know this special youth hostel but I know a lot of adult people who are staying in any hostels without problems. We did it too many years ago but at this time our kids haven´t been adult.

If you are doubtful you could contact the hostel and ask.

There is another nice hotel quite near the Mülheimer Brücke that you might want to take into consideration:

I can tell right away that it's quite outside our budget.

Hi, we have stayed in hostels in several countries in Europe and we are in our 40s with a little kid. We have always had family rooms that have come with an ensuite bath. always enjoyed our stay, never felt out of place. I normally check the reviews here first to be sure it is family friendly and not a party place. The one we stayed at in Stockholm was super quiet and at breakfast, we were the youngest people there! There was a group of people in their 60s and '70s. I did notice some hostels in the UK had age restrictions, and those tended to be the party hostels.
