railraod network Cologne incl. Stadtbahn (tram)

vrsinfo.de/download/5_2_Schnellverkehrsplan_…

For trips inside the VRS (greater Cologne region), e.g. to Bonn, you can buy day and mini group day tickets. Price depends on the number of zones required.

http://www.vrsinfo.de/eng/index.php

For trips further inside the state North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) you can buy a

SchönerTag Ticket Single NRW (1 person) EUR 21,00

SchönerTag Ticket NRW (2-5 persons) EUR 27,00

railroad map NRW

www.nahverkehr.nrw.de/oelcms/ocx2.exe?GF=5

(NRW is in area and populatin as big as the Netherlands)

Both tickets are only valid for local public transport:

- local trains (RegionalBahn RB and RegionalExpress (RE)

- S-Bahn

- Stadtbahn/trams

- buses

If you plan further day trips a German Rail Pass will be a good choice

There are no web special fares just for day trips. There are some special fares listed on the above linked page. But they all come with a number of conditions and restriction. And often not even cheaper than a rail pass. But lack the great flexibility a rail pass gives you.
