Retail beer shops close to border at Venlo

Hi, Strange request here. I have a large family party which for diverse reasons will be German themed in September this year. I'm looking for local suggestions from locals as I plan to do a day trip to stock up on German bier and various other items from the Uk. I can pick up a small selection in the UK but at 2.50 Euros a bottle it is going to be more cost effective for a day trip. Calais is the usual option for us Brits but again overpriced unless I want to buy rubbish french beer.

So, as the Venlo border area is the nearest time-wise from the UK (Done the trip many times to lots of parts of Germany) i'm looking for tips on retail stores (or bulk beer shops) as close to the border as possible. I know i'll have to pick up the cost of the 'deposit' or pfand on the bottles/crates but as it still easily is less than 1 euro a bottle its worthwhile for a trip for 200-300 bottles.

I'm not after craft beer or unusual stuff so I don't need a lecture from beer snobs :-) Just a simple selection of the main brands (Warsteiner, Paulaner, Veltins, Krombacher etc and maybe stretch it to some Hacker Pschoor and Rothaus.)

I'll also be looking to pick up Wurst, Frikadellen and traditional German condiments.

It will probably be a Saturday trip so Monday/Friday businesses would be no good.

Any advice would be great

Any "Getränkemarkt" ( beverage shop) will do. Here the ones in Kaldenkirchen

REWE is a larger supermarket which has also a Getränkemarkt

Best option regarding the beer / package relation are the 5 l kegs offered by some breweries. The above have surely some of these on sale.

- no deposit (unlike with bottles or the bigger kegs)

- 5 l beer, ~ 1 kg package (keg)

- keg equipment included (unlike with the bigger kegs where you need your own equipment or rent it)

Be sure to do all your shopping on the Saturday then. German law requires practically all shops to be closed on Sundays and public holidays.

I would simply go to Rewe, they have local and some good craft beer. The cheapest 0.5l beer is something like 29 cents, I can not vouch on how they taste, but usually cans are around 69 cents. At Rewe you can also pick up fresh Frickadellen in a bun for €1 and they have really good mini Frikadellen in a box for cheap. Get a Löwen senf/musturd with it. It is a spicy mustard that is so good. Basically at Rewe you will get everything you are looking for.

Aldi could be another option that is even cheaper, but they do not have a fresh bakery or butcher, so go with Rewe
