Berlin tour from cruise ship terminal.

We are family of 4, 2 adults, 2 kids 10,11 will be in a cruise ship coming may 26th. we want to do a one day tour of berlin.

please advice the best value tour which will cover maximum sights and will drop us back to the port in the evening.

Our ship Norwegian star May 26th,2013

We are looking for people who would like to form a group to do the Berlin City Tours. With a group of 7-16, the price is very reasonable and much less expensive than the cruise tour.

How long is your ship in the harbour? Just transit to and from Berlin will take 5 hours at least, how much time do have left for sight seeing then?

On TV there was a report about a cruise to GB and they offered a day trip to London from the ship, those people got out of the bus for around 15 mins, the rest was spend driving to and from and through London in the bus.

Because of the many cruise ships there is a direct ICE connection between Warnemünde and Berlin. But you still need 3 hours to Berlin. The NCL excursions last 13 hours, which means 6 hours on the train and 7 hours in Berlin.

The excursion costs $349/person and offers the highlights of Mitte. FYI: you could also do this tour on your own. If you book in advance at http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en the train costs 50€/person, a day ticket for Berlins public transport 6,50€. To get around simply use bus 100 and hop on and off.

Keep in mind, if you do not availa yourself of the Berlin trip offered by the ship, if you are late, the ship doesn't wait for you.

Frankly, on our ship, those who took the ship sponsored tour to Berlin came back exhausted and really didn't see that much of Berlin.

Alternatives. Take a train trip on your own to Luebeck. We did that and enjoyed it immensely. Rostock is just a short trip by suburban train from near the W. dock. Or visit one of the Baltic Sea Shore spas.

Close to Rostock/Warnemünde are three preserved Hanseatic towns which all look more or less the same: Lübeck, Wismar and Stralsund. Lübeck was the head of the Hanseatic League and the most important city along the coast. Sadly some part were partly destroyed in WW2.... but the old town is still impressive. Wismar is smaller and lost some churches in WW2, Stralsund is probably the best preserved of the three cities.

In case you don't want to see a Hanseatic town you could go to Schwerin instead, which was once the capital of the duchy of Mecklenburg. It's a pleasant town with a huge castle, which could be described as the Neuschwanstein of the north, and a completely preserved Altstadt (old town) surrounded by lakes.

My friend and I would be interested in going to Berlin if the price is right.
