Staying in Frankfurt, where to go for best Christmas Markets

Hi I shall be travelling to Frankfurt from the 13-18 Dec 2013 (5 nights) and will be staying in Hauptwache.

Can someone recommend best Christmas Markets to visit in the nearby please?

We shall be 4 adults and 1 kid aged 2.

Thanks for all the info.

Frankfurt Christmas Market at Römer, about 5 minutes walk from Hauptwache

Mainz and Wiesbaden. You'll have to travel by S-Bahn for that.

If you want an old town with fairytale ambience, Marburg.

Thanks for your replies. I have included Wiesbaden and Rudesheim in my itenary.

Will check out Marburg.

I was considered going on a day trip to Black Forest and Strasbourg . Quite expensive I might say but if it is worth going, we will go. Any views on such trip?

Strasbourg and the Black Forest are not close to Frankfurt. A trip there will be time consuming and not that cheap.

Mainz, Wiesbaden, Marburg and Rüdesheim are like Frankfurt inside the RMV local public transport assocation. There are cheap group day tickets and the Hessenticket

rmv.de/en/…

Also famous for its Christmas Market, deep in the Odenwald upland and inside the RMV: Michelstadt

There are direct trains from Frankfurt Hbf to Michelstadt. Travel time is approx. 80 minutes.

Seligenstadt or Aschaffenburg are also near enough to get to, as is Heidelberg. Would put Marburg at the top of the list though. The market in Bad Homburg is also open that weekend.
