Train passes for two people out of Frankfurt?

We are planning a vacation in mid to late October, based out of Frankfurt. Can we purchase train passes for two that can be used for both an excursion out of Frankfurt to Meinz, and a second excursion out of Frankfurt to Berlin and back. Any information about the trains to these cities will be helpful.

It's probably cheaper to buy those ticket separately, rather than buying some kind of pass.

For schedules, fares and online bookings go to:

www.bahn.com

From: Frankfurt(Main)Hbf

To: Mainz Hbf (spelled with an A)

and to: Berlin Hbf

There are saving fares that are available as early as 92 days in advance. Those saving fares are significantly cheaper than the standard fare, but are inflexible, and they do sell out quite quickly, so you should book those tickets as early as possible to get the best offer.

Mainz and Frankfurt both belong to the RMV network so you can buy day passes http://www.rmv.de/en/.

As soon as you know when you will travel from Frankfurt to Berlin book here http://www.bahn.de/i/view/USA/en/index.shtml like YT said 92 days in advance will get you the cheapest ticket.

You do know that the shortest train ride to Berlin takes almost 4 hours one way, that is not a day excursion.

Thank you for the info. I will check the pricing of passes against the special fare tickets. The link for booking is appreciated; I find the European train system complicated.

Also, didn't realize the train to Berlin was a 4 hour ride, but we are planning to spend four nights there. Good thing.

Will check in on those 92 day advance fare tickets when available. For now will check pricing on regular fares and passes, for comparison purposes. Thanks for replying.

RMV day pass from Frankfurt to Mainz is EUR 26,60 for 2 (up to 5) persons traveling together. RMV tickets are zone-to-zone local public transport covering all means of local public transport: regional trains, S-Bahn, U-Bahn (metro), trams and buses. Not covered are long distance trains (IC/EC or ICE). You can buy this day pass on spot. There is no advantage buying RMV tickets in advance.

For Frankfurt to Berlin the fastest option are the ICE trains. For these you can buy discounted specials in advance (from 92 days in advance on). These start from EUR 49 for 2 persons one way. But sell more or less fast. Only disadvantage of these specials is that they are only good for the connection bought for. Buying a seat reservation will add EUR 4 per person.

Thanks, this is very helpful information. The ICE train to Berlin sounds good, if we can secure the 92 day advance tickets. Should be much faster than 4 hours.

Do you know if Boppard is in the RMV network. We are relooking the plan to stop at Mainz, and may go through from Frankfurt to Boppard, and rent a car in Boppard. I still need to research the car rental situation in Boppard.

It is not gonna be faster than 4 hours.

You travel 550 km (340 miles) and the ICE needs a little over 4 hours, which is actually not long at all for that kind of distance.

Sorry if I misunderstood you.
