Advices for couple of days in Hamburg

I'll be in Hamburg in summer for 4 days.

I know very little about Hamburg, and I'd like to ask for a coupe of suggestions on things to do. We are family with two kids, girls of 11 and 9.

Any other advices are welcome.

Thank you

The chocolate factory and the Miniaturwunderland are attractions, most kids enjoy. A short boat tour on the river Alster is also very nice.

You should decide for a harbour tour, would also be interesting for your kids seeing hopefully big ships. There is a also a world famous zoo in Hamburg: Hagenbeck.

There are no tall theme parks in Hamburg I know. The major theme parks in Northern Germany are Heidepark and Hansapark, but both are approx 1 hour by car from Hamburg.

Hansapark and Heidepark can also be reached by trains from Hamburg.

I second a visit to the Miniaturwunderland and a boat ride on either the Elbe (harbour) or Alster. The zoo called Hagenbecks Tierpark is also a very nice visit, along with it's tropical aquarium.

Other good ideas might be renting a canoe and paddle around on the Alster or a visit to the Planetarium. The Planetarium has special shows for kids and headphones so you can listen to the shows in eglish.

And if the weather is good (never going to happen) you could also spend a day at the beach in Travemünde.

Which of the parks, Hansapark and Heidepark, are more appropriate for my kids (girls of 11 and 9)? They are not fans of high-adrenaline attractions.

And which one is more easily accessible from Hamburg by train (I chekced bahn-de and seem to both destinations I have to change the train.

Thanks

I don't know which may be more appropriate for your kids. There are probably maps and info on the homepages of either park, so you could compare them.

You have to change trains for either park, that's right. There is not a huge travel time difference between either location as well.

Closest station to Hansapark is: Sierksdorf (Change in Lübeck)

Closest station to Heidepark is: Wolterdingen(Han) (Change in Buchholz/Nordheide)

As for the tickets you need: Buy a Schleswig Holstein ticket if you choose the Hansapark and a Niedersachsenticket for Heidepark. (2 adults, kids travel free)
