72 hour welcome card

Hi,

We are flying into Schonefeld on a Friday morning and flying out of the same Airport on Sunday night, so I think it makes sense to purchase the 72 travel pass.

I have read that there is an express train from Schonefeld to the city. Is this a privately operated train or does the pass cover this train. If not, how long do the standard trains take to get to Alexanderplatz?

Thanks

The Airport Express (which is just a normal regional train of either the RE7 or RB14 line) is covered by local public transport tickets for the zones Berlin ABC. Thus also by a WelcomeCard 72 hours for Berlin+Potsdam (= Berlin ABC, Schönefeld and Potsdam are in zone Berlin C).

You could also get an AB card (not including Potsdam) and then just buy a zone extension ticket for €1.60 from a machine on the platform.

Considering you will be traveling to and from Schonefeld on separate days might as well just get the ABC together so you don't have to worry about it.

@bill2p

You're aware that the extension ticket cannot be used to extend a Berlin WelcomeCard AB? This works only with plain 1 day or 7 days VBB/BVG local public transport tickets.

http://www.bvg.de/index.php/de/3795/name/Fuer+Berlin-Besucher/article/12342.html

"Die Berlin WelcomeCards Tarifbereich Berlin AB gelten für jeweils eine Person und nur im Berliner Stadtgebiet. Das Lösen eines Anschlussfahrscheines für den Teilbereich C ist nicht möglich."

No, I had no idea. Thanks for informing me. So the OP would have to shell out extra for an ABC Welcome Card or buy a standalone ticket.
