1. Re: Visit Berlin

We (2 senior citizens) returned from Berlin yesterday by train. We went for a long weekend. Booked online with www.bahn.de for 59 euros from London to Berlin, but you can go anywhere in Germany for this price.

Easy to book online as they put up a schedule for you to choose from and you can see timings etc. Do use the Ice train not Thalys as this is much cheaper.. Good luck.

A good hotel in Berlin is the Potdamer Hof, where a fabulous breakfast is included in the price. Hotel very convenient for all the sights and buses stop just outside. M85 and M48 to take you into main Berlin, although you can walk. The hotel is older style but with modern en suite and is spotlessly clean.

thanks for your ideas and input... does the ICE cross the ferry from Copenhagen to Berlin?

@amaolasaenz Basically, the crossing to Copenhagen can be done via 2 points, Flensburg, or Puttgarden. Depending on the timetable, could either be a RE (Regional Express) or an ICE train.

I can recommend the journey via Puttgarden, where the ICE-TD went on the Scandlines ferry, and continue the journey after crossing the sea

And I forgot to give you the links:

Copenhagen to Berlin, use reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query2.exe/en?, press 'Enter stopovers', and specify 'Puttgarden' into this field. You will get journeys using the ICE from Copenhagen to Hamburg, and then change at Hamburg for the trip to Berlin

For Berlin to Vienna, also use the above link
