Staying near Wurzburg

We will be staying in Aub for 2 nights in August in a party of 6 adults in 2 cars which we will pick up in the morning of the first day at Frankfurt Airport. Our plan is to drive to Aub to arrive about 5pm. We will spend the second day in and around the area on the second day. On the third day we will drive to friends who live west of Augsburg to arrive early afternoon. Could we please have some advice or suggestions on:

1. An interesting / pretty route from Frankfurt Airport to Aub where we can stop off along the route on our first day.

2. Suggestions of how to spend our full day.

3. Ideas of where we might stop off for an hour or two between Aub and Krumbach on our third day.

1. following the river Main

Miltenberg - Wertheim

from there follow the river Tauber till Greglingen which is pretty close to Aub

2. Würzburg or Rothenburg ob der Tauber

3. Rothenburg ob der Tauber (albeit 1-2 hours are damn short)

An option for such a short stopover en route would be Neresheim Abbey

Thank you very much abalada. Your advice was very helpful and helped us see a little more off the beaten track.

1. Miltenberg was a lovely little town and we then ran out of time so didn't see as much of Wertheim. Greglingen was lovely.

2.Würzburg was a lovely city with lots to do.

3. Neresheim Abbey

We decided to break our journey on the way home and stopped at Rothenburg then.
