Public Transit & best way to get to Nuremberg from Salzburg

Ok I have 2 questions....

1. Public transit in Nuremberg. Do they have subways or trams to get around the city? If so do they offer day passes or couple day passes? We are possibly planning on getting a car to drive day trips to Rothenburg and Wurzburg unless there are better alternatives

2. What is the best train carriers to get you from Salzburg to Nuremberg? Flying for some reason around the time we are going has no direct flights and they have a layover or multiple layovers and I know the cities are not that far apart.

Thanks for your time

There are the S-Bahn, U-Bahn (subway), trams and buses to get you around.

www.vgn.de/en/maps/nuernberg?Edition=en

Day pass for 2 adults (TagesTicket Plus) is EUR 9,10 for Nuremberg and EUR 17,50 for the whole VGN network. Wit the latter ticket you could travel to Rothenburg or Bamberg.

http://www.vgn.de/en/dayticket?Edition=en&p=2

If bought on a Saturday a TagesTicket Plus is also good for Sunday.

To Würzburg you can use a Bayern Ticket (Bavaria Ticket). EUR 27 for 2 persons.

bahn.de/i/…bavaria-ticket.shtml

Bayern Ticket covers all local public transport in Nuremberg and Würzburg (trams and buses).

VGN tickets and the Bayern Ticket are local public transport tickets. They cover regional trains. Long distance trains (ICE, IC/EC, RJ) are not covered.

You can even travel from Nuremberg to Salzburg on a Bayern Ticket. Bayern Ticket does however not cover local public transport in Salzburg. Only the trains to Salzburg Hbf (main train station).

Or use long distance trains for this trip and see if you can get a discounted special in advance.

DB timetable

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

Start: Nürnberg Hbf

Destination: Salzburg Hbf

In case you want to see your connection options for this route when using a Bayern Ticket select as means of transport "only local transport".

Ok so the Bayern ticket is the way to go obviously. However we are going to be in Salzburg first then going to Nuremberg. Are they going to sell Bayern tickets in Salzburg Hbf or will we have to buy it online? Also you said you can travel from Salzburg Hbf using a Bayern pass. To get from Salzburg to Nuremberg will we have to use a DB train or some other German railway company? Or can we use the OBB Austrian railway company?

Bayern tickets are available from the ticket machines at Salzburg station - no need to buy online

.There is a great tourist bus route in Nuremberg which covers lots of the attractions you may want to visit vag.de/Sightseeing-Line-36/id20/Experience-N…

If you want to travel from Salzburg Hbf to Nuremberg on a Bayern Ticket you have to stick to regional trains. It plays no role which company does operate these. To see connections you can use with a Bayern Ticket check with the DB timetable and select as means of transport "only local transport".
