Nuremberg to Salzberg

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a train or bus directly to Salzberg?

1. Are you asking about Obersalzberg and Eagle's Nest, or about the Austrian city of Salzburg? There is no city named "Salzberg", only a tiny village in Hessen and this is not very likely to be your destination.

2. In either case there is no direct train. To Salzburg you have to change trains in Munich. To Obersalzberg you have to go via Munich and Berchtesgaden. Long-distance bus lines do not exist.

Thus SalzbUrg - not SalzbErg.

While in Austria, Salzburg Hbf (main train station) counts in rail terms still as domestic, which means you can use domestic German offers to get to Salzburg Hbf. Thus you can travel from Nuremberg to Salzburg for cheap on a Bayern Ticket (Bavaria Ticket) if you use regional trains.

DB timetable

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

Start: Nuremberg

Destination: Salzburg Hbf

Select as means of transport "only local transport" if you want to travel on a Bayern Ticket. This ticket is always available and can also be bought on spot from ticket machines. Bayern Ticket covers also all local public transport in Nuremberg (S-Bahn, U-Bahn, trams and buses).

If you use regional trains only you can use the Bayern Ticket - which you can buy any time.

21 € for one person and 29 € for 2-5 persons, all regional transportation in all of Bavaria for a day.

If you want to use express trains, try to get cheap tickets as soon as they are issued - 92 days in advance.

If you are not scrimping, I would advise you renta car so you can visit Salzburg, Innsbruck and Munich and even the Black Forest Castles at your own leisure.

Nuremberg to Salzburg is about 4 hours drive, Nuremberg to Muncih is 2 and a hlaf hours, Munich to Innsbruck is 2 hrs drive and Innsbruck to Salzburg is another 2 hours drive.

It is shorter to drive to Salzburg from Munich.

For travel from city to city, a car is of no advantage. Higher costs, the hassle of driving and navigating, the parking problem. If all you plan to visit are cities, take the train.

bettylopez, what "Black Forest castles" are you referring to? The Black Forest is far away from their route. In case you are thinking of Neuschwanstein & Co., these are not in the Black Forest but in the Bavarian Alps.
