There are trains every hour from Munich to Oberstdorf.

>also need to go from Munich to Venice. We are not sure if we should fly or take the train.

Flying is a hassle and won't save you a lot of time as Munich airport is quite far from the city. You can look whether there are budget airlines on this stretch at www.whichbudget.com or www.skyscanner.org.

Otherwise, I think the ideal way to get there will be just a direct night train. Not everybody can sleep on a train, so you should take that into account .

Hi altamiro: What website would you suggest for checking train schedules and booking night trains from Munich to Venice. I know www.sbb.ch will give you schedules, but I wonder if there's a better website for german trains?

DB timetable

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/e

From: Munich

To: Venezia S.Lucia

If you want to take the night train (from EUR 29,00) you can check prices and book at

https://buchung.nachtzugreise.de

Munich to Oberstdorf

Best to use the Bavaria Ticket. A day ticket covering all local trains (S-Bahn, RB, RE, IRE, ALEX) and other local public transport (buses and e.g. in Munich also trams and U-Bahn) in the state Bavaria. On weekdays however valid only past 9am.

EUR 25,00 for 2-5 persons (together).

"only local trains" is no real restriction when travelling to Oberstdorf. There are no others anyway.
