Paris to Germany - and castles in 4 days

My family of 5 will be traveling from Paris to Germanyby train before moving on to Ital this Julyy. We will have four nights in Germany and my husband would like to see some castles. Besides Nushwanstein Castle-, would anyone reccomend an itineary coming from Paris to Germany that would incorporate some "not to be missed" castles? Thanks

You can reach the delightful Mosel River town of Cochem in about 3.5 - 4 hours from Paris. From Cochem you are within range of some excellent castle adventures. Burg Eltz is just downstream, a nice 45-min walk through the woods from Moselkern station. Reichsburg Castle is right in Cochem - excellent falconry show there. Daytrips to Marksburg (in Braubach on the Rhine) or Rheinfels castle ruins (St. Goar on the Rhine) are also possible by train from Cochem - a 3-day mini-group daypass costs 42.40€ and gets you to all these places.

Do you think we could visit all these places via "train" or would we need to rent a car?

Why don't you stay the night in a castle? There are several castles that are now hotels.

Train service in the area is frequent, extensive, and efficient. You have to walk about 45 minutes from Moselkern to Burg Eltz castle, although there is a weekend bus, but the walk is great. Details:

The other castles are reachable in about half that time or less from the stations. Everything else is easy by train - the towns are smallish and the stations are near the town centers.
