If I buy the o2 sim card with data plan in Germany, can it be used it switzerland and Italy?
No, you wouldn't use up your German prepaid data volume outside Germany, but would be charged at maximum 0.70€ + local VAT per megabyte in other EU countries, i.e. about 1,000€ per gigabyte.
However, Switzerland is not in the EU, so they can charge even more.
If you need data, buy a new SIM and book a new data flat rate in each country.
What about call & SMS? Roaming is a must if traveling different countries, is it advisable to buy sim card in every country?
Call and SMS costs within the EU are also regulated, they can charge maximum 0.29€ + local VAT per minute, and 0.09€ + VAT for a SMS, see this table: …wikipedia.org/wiki/…Common_limits
So there it would make sense to simply use up any credit you still have on your foreign SIM.
However, again, Switzerland not being part of the EU, it has no such legal limit, for example, they charge:
- 0.54€ per minute
- 0.39€ per SMS
Your table really useful! Thank you
