Car rental or train? Visiting town btwn Frankfurt/Wurzburg

We are traveling in late March from Munich to a small town 20 miles west of Wurzburg, and I would like some advice on how to get there. We will leave Munich Thursday afternoon heading to small town, and then we fly out Saturday late morning from Frankfurt.

Will spend all day Friday searching for family history sites in small town, so we need a rental car for Friday to do this. But not sure if we should rent a car from Munich and drive to small town, then continue onto Frankfurt airport and drop car off? Or take a train from Munich to Frankfurt, then backtrack to small town and easy drop off at airport Saturday morning? Or rental car in Wurzburg? We are at a loss! Thanks for any advice you can give!

Thanks!

It is difficult to say since you dont want to disclose the name of the small town for some reason. It depends how good the train connections are for the mysterious small town. In case you want to keep it secret, look up schedules on www.bahn.de, or you can rent a car in Würzburg and drop it off at the airport.

As altamiro said. This is impossible to answer unless you reveal where exactly "small town" is located.
