S-bahn or U-bahn that runs from Nuremburg to Munich

Is there an S-bahn or U-bahn that runs from Nuremburg to Munich? We will need inexpensive traportation from Nuremburg to Munich Dec. 22nd 2009. And roughly what would be the price?

Any information would be helpful!! Thank you.

Simple answer: no. Please check a map for the distance between the two cities.

There are local trains and your cheapest option will be the Bayern ticket.

The city's name is Nuremberg, by the way, not -burg.

The Bayern Ticket for 1 is 20 euros; for 2-5 people it is 28 euros.

Set the Means of transport to only local transport. On weekdays you must start your travel after 9AM to use the Bayern Ticket. On the weekend it works all day.

U-Bahn (metro, subway)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U-Bahn

Operates normally only inside the city borders.

.

S-Bahn (suburban trains)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-Bahn

Operate normally only inside a distinctive conurbation.

.

But as already pointed out you can use regional trains between Nuremberg and Munich on a Bavaria Ticket (Bayern Ticket) for cheap. Esp. if traveling not alone. Bavaria Ticket covers also the S-Bahn, U-Bahn, trams and buses in either city.

The regional trains Nuremberg to Munich are by the way not slow at all:

I am traveling in December Monday-Wednesday with 4 people total.

We are staying within walking distance of the main train in Munich and planning to get there from the airport by train.

I have more than one question regarding the Bayern ticket.

Can I purchase these online in advance and/or should I ?

My plan (rough draft) is fly in early Monday

do markets in Munich

TUES: train to Nuremberg and back

WED: train to Salzburg and back and fly out in the evening

Are there other towns I could fit into this itinerary? Rothenburg (sp) ?

Does the Bayern ticket require that I purchase one each day and will it cover all my in town public transport for all 4 persons?

thanks!

Yes. But this makes no sense at all. Will only add a shipping fee or EUR 3,50. Bayern Ticket is always available on spot. But comes with no change, no refund. You can buy from all ticket machines. And for EUR 2,00 more also at the counters. Y

MOND: airport to Munich

buy a MVV partner day ticket for EUR 18,00

TUES: train to Nuremberg and back

Bayern Ticket

WED: train to Salzburg and back and fly out in the evening

This won't really work out well. Bayern Ticket is on a weekday only valid past 9am. Thus you will have a really limited time in Salzburg.

You could aim for closer destinations, e.g. Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald. Or even explore Munich a little bit more.

> Does the Bayern ticket require that I purchase one each day

ou can buy also for a date in advance (default is always today).

> and will it cover all my in town public transport for all 4 persons?

In Munich and Nuremberg: yes. But the buses in Salzburg are not covered.

ok i have accessed this ticket selection screen and once you choose your date and time, you must choose number of travelers, then for each traveler, you specifiy one of 4 choices, one is 'Bahncard 25.....' or 'Bahncard 50....' so on. The prices that are coming up are more than 28euro.

Can I wait until we are ready to leave the Munich Hbf and get the saver ticket for our party of 4? I did not think we had to purchase in advance to guarantee the saver price.

thanks for assistance.

Do not buy the Bayern-Ticket in advance. Wait until you are ready to leave. Buying the ticket in advance has no advantage.

Prices above 28 Euros? Perhaps you did not select "only local transport" as the "Means of transport".
