Restaurants

Hi

My sister and I will be staying in Munich this weekend. We will be staying at the Anna Hotel which is near Karlsplatz. Can anybody recommend some restaurants in that area for lunch and dinner, we dont want anything too expensive so the Konigshof is out of the question. We like all differnet types of food, typical Bavarian restaurants would be lovely. Also our German is appalling, so any restaurants where the staff could be patient with us would be great.

Many Thanks

I always recommend two places, both near whee you stay: Altes Hackerhaus www.hackerhaus.de.

Menu is in Englsih and some staff speak English. Day menu of specials isn't though!

And Augustiner "Brewery Tap" www.braeustuben.de.

Not in English but good menu on their site, and shows daily specials

Agree re Hackerhaus, just wander down the main street to Marienplatz, turn right to Sendlinger strasse.

On Marienplatz, Ratskeller beneath the town hall looks like a tourist trap but in fact serves excellent food in a very local atmosphere, prices are low - mid range. Gresat service and atmosphere, locals as well as tourists.

Also round the corner at Viktualienmarkt for lunch, you have a nice beer garden where they serve bavarian specialities waitress service or self-service and all around this market you have lots of quality food options, fast food and restaurants but all Bavarian style and not expensive. Go first day for lunch, you'll probably return the following day:-)

I suggest you wander around... closer to Marienplatz and you will find so many places... to the side of the Frauenkirche are a few nice places, including a weird australian pub in a basement... you will get good food at prices much cheaper than Britain in most of these casual places... most waiters will speak and understand english... if you want a meat fest then you must go to Haxnbauer which is halfway between the Frauenkirche and the Hofbrauhaus... you cant miss it.... look out for the rotisserie in the large window.... otherwsie the suggestions above are good,.. so just have a wander and follow your nose... in the area above you will find mainly 'standard' Bavarian fare... and if you enjoy your beers to wash down the grub you will do just fine... after several hundred years of brewing tradition you will find it hard to find a bad beer... unless you like Fosters...

Another nod to Haxenbauer,

If you want crispy knuckle, go there, theytdo it in Ratskeller but it's way inferior to Haxenbauer. Other dishes in Ratskeller are excellent.
