We stayed at the Partenkirchener Hof two summers ago. It was an older place, not modernized that much but the rooms were spacious enough. We lucked out and got a beautiful view from our window but I could tell that lots of rooms didn't have that same view. When we got there the desk person told us that his credit card machine was broken and we'd have to pay him in cash. This was inconvenient for us, especially since he didn't speak any English and he told us this only in German. We understood him to say that there was an automatic teller in town and we could use our credit card to get the needed cash to pay him. There was a restaurant there but no customers--we only had breakfast but the breakfast room was somewhat interesting with old documents and photos on the wall. The breakfast itself was very basic.
All in all I wasn't a bad place to stay, but I had the impression they were struggling to stay in business, which may not be the case.
We ate dinner in Garmish at Claussings PostHotel where we actually stayed over 20 years ago and we had the best waiter and good food with a table by the large windows looking out onto the street in Garmish. That nice dinner left us wondering why we didn't just stay at Claussings PostHotel in the first place--except that the room we sayed at over 20 years ago was so small we never forgot about it!
Sorry, but don't know anything of the Hotel Zugspitze.
Now I really feel stupid, and I apologize for my error. I double-checked the hotel we stayed at (as I should have done before responding to your post) and I made a mistake. We stayed at the Post-Hotel Partenkirchen, not the Reindl's Partenkirchener Hof!! I recalled that the reviews for our hotel were wonderful prior to our stay there in the summer of 2004, but now I see that someone else posted about the credit card machine, etc.
I'm so sorry to mislead you by making this mistake!
in reading this i got scared you see i have a reservation at reindl's partenkirchner i am glad it was the wrong hotel, otherwise i would have cancelled my reservation.
We just stayed three nights at Reindl's Partenkirchner Hof in July and liked it very much. Our standard room had numerous "high end" features including bathrobes, turndown service, etc. It's a beautiful old hotel with numerous antiques throughout the common areas and the bedrooms. We also enjoyed dining at the hotel- it's a high end restaurant and the food and service was very good. We had a beautiful view outside our balcony that looked out over the mountains. I hope you enjoy your stay there.
