Garmisch-Partenkirchen for two nights

Hello! Would Garmish be a good location to stay for 2 nights to spend one day visiting the Zugspritze, and the next day the Neuschwanstein Castle? Does this plan make sense? We'll be hopping all through Southern Germany so trying to stay in each place for at least a two nighs.

Thank you in advance!!

Check out the Hotel Edelweiss in Garmish. It is the most charming place, serene, quiet, yet easy walk to everything. The accomodations are wonderful, and the owners charming. You won't go wrong there!

Many thanks for the suggestion. We would like to spend a few days in Mittenwald but Garmisch sounds great as does Marnau - wife would like Prien (the lakes) but perhaps a bit touristy. Our one difficulty is that we will be relying much upon trains to get around - can a train ticket be purchased to provide ticket price reduction in the area? Thanks Again Anthony

Hi anthony5468,

Yes, there is the Bavaria Ticket, where a group can travel all day on one ticket. The restrictions are that you must travel on a regional train (not IC or ICE), and that you cannot travel on a weekday morning before 09.00.

More information at:

bahn.com/i/…laender-ticket.shtml

Have fun as you plan!

Many thanks, I was hoping to buy a ticket that gave reductions throughout the whole week if there is such a thing! Does Senior cit rail card apply or anything like it? We (wife and I ) will be using rail a fair bit throughourt the week and we are looking for savings

Many thanks for help to date,

Anthony

Unfortunately, I don't know of anything like that.

If you are going on a long-distance trip, then your best bet is to buy a savings fare about 92 days in advance; most tickets are 29 Euro per person. You can purchase your ticket online, then print it at your computer. The disadvantage is that you are then locked into catching that specific train at that specific time. Buy tickets at

www.bahn.com

If you are going a short distance, then your best bet are the various Länder-Tickets.

Good luck as you work it out!
