Altotting, Germany -Chapel of the Miraculous Image

Can anyone share their experience in Altotting. We are planning to take the train from Munich to visit the Miraculous Image and explore the area. We plan to stay overnight. I would also like to visit Marktl where Pope Benedict was born. Not sure how to get there.

Sorry, no experience with Altötting.

As you are interested in Pope Benedict, I can recommend the Domberg and its chapel in Freising where he was ordained. The chapel is quite attractive, as is the town.

Freising has even a leaflet about Pope Benedict and Freising.

Altötting

Marktl am Inn

You can reach these places by train. Cheap if you use a Bayern Ticket. EUR 28 for 2-5 persons traveling together. Covers all regional trains in Bavaria plus nearly all other local public transport. E.g. from Altötting to Marktl the direct buses are also an option.

DB timetable

From: Munich

To: Freising

To: Altoetting

To: Marktl

and select as means of transport "only local transport".

Also interesting Burghausen near Marktl with the longest castle in Europe.
