Anton Lang

I have a drawing from the 20's of a home and

have seen the same house on the web pictures of

Oberammergau. The picture is dated and signed

by Anton Lang whose name appears to be painted on

building. Wondering if anyone might have more

information on this.

Hi. I am also looking for more information. I have a beautiful vase that has "Anton Lang" and "Oberammergau" inscribed on the bottom.

Anton Lang was a potter and artist in Oberammergau where the Lang family was very prominent. He played the role of Jesus in several performances of the passion play, and then when he became too old, he read the prologue. He was a member of the Nazi party and, as such, was initially banned from the entertainment industry after WW2. In a response to a petition to "denazify" him and restore his participation in the performance, Billy Wilder, the american director, supposedly stated that he ".. had no problem with Lang playing the role of Christ in the passion play, provided they used real nails!"

If you google "Anton Lang Oberammergau", you will find a lot of information.
