What to do in Stuttgart for 6 hrs. & Luggage @ train station

I and 3 more friends would be arriving at Stuttgart by 10am on 26Sept,2013. We want to explore Stuttgart till about 4pm, and catch a train to Munich for the Oktoberfest.

a.) Please advise what to do in Stuttgart for 6hours.

b.) What is the cheapest way to travel from Airport to Train Station and in & around Stuttgart. Do they have a group pass for 4 persons?

c.) Does Stuttgart train station have luggage lockers big enough to hold the large suitcases?

d.) If we are going for the Munich-Oktoberfest, should we skip the Cannstatter-volksfest?

a) I would suggest one of two things. First, as you are arriving at the Stuttgart Airport, there is a tourist information office between the baggage claims of Terminals 1/2 and 3/4. They have excellent free information, give good advice, and can sell you a public transportation ticket that best meets your needs. Buy a map there of Stuttgart for 0.50€ which will have a 1-3 hour suggested walking tour of the central sights. You could combime this with a visit to one or more of the central museums.

Otherwise, visit the more than excellent Mercedes Benz Museum which covers the more than 125 year history of this firm and the automobile. After all, Stuttgart is where the automobile was invented and is still commercialized. This museum is world-class and loved by all visitors irregardless of age, gender or whether they particularly like cars or not. This should take up all of your available free time.

b) get a 3-zone group day pass which is valid for 5 people and will cover all public transportation.

c) There are several luggage storage areas in the train station and are capable of handling large bags

d) Personally, I would not skip it. It is the second largest beer festival in the world after Munich's but has more rides making it the world's largest fun festival. It is also not full of drunken foreigners making it more "authentic". If you already don't have rooms in Munich, it's by far too late, and all rooms will have doubled or tripled in price, if you can find one. In Stuttgart there are only a very few hotels quite close to the fairground where they do this, the others only have very moderate price increases. For other things to do in and around Stuttgart, have a look at what I wrote in #1 of tripadvisor.com/…49932873 .
