Baden-Baden vs Wiesbaden

I have been several times in Baden-Baden and I find this place attractive (because it has Termes and also nice places for walking). This time I am travelling to Frankfurt and consider to spend some days there or in a similar place. My companions offer to visit Wiesbaden instead (they have been already in B-B though never in Wiesbaden, and they are not sure were we all are bored in Wiesbaden). So now we are thinking what would be the best decision.

Can you please advice what is the main difference between Baden-Baden and Wiesbaden?

What would you advice?

Thank you!

Well, the most evident difference is that Wiesbaden is about 5 times as big as Baden-Baden. Thus the ambience is more urbanly.

In the Greater Frankfurt area, I would prefer Bad Homburg.

Baden-Baden is a spa town with history.

Wiesbaden is a state capital city with a spa town history.

Difficult to compare. Bad Homburg is certainly closer to Baden-Baden. Similar distance like Wiesbaden from Frankfurt.

Wiesbaden is nearly half as big as Frankfurt. Wiesbaden has lot's of buildings of the 2nd half of the 19th century. Which are mostly around as the destructions in WWII were not as big as in other larger cities.

If you looking for a spa tow, Bad Homburg does have a spa, but I find it not as attractive as many others. It's large but sort of in need of refurbishing. (IMHO). However, if you are looking for a town with good parks, architecture, etc. Bad Homburg is good and similar to Baden Baden.

There are many Thermes:

huwe, abalada, NYNM - thank you! I read your posts and looked through web-links. It seems that Baden-Baden is better for relaxing holidays, Wiesbaden is better for sightseeing. I see it is worth to go to Baden-Baden for thermes, and it is worth to go to Wiesbaden for 1-2 days to touch the history

As for Bad Homburg - actually I thought that this is part of Frankfurt, I stayed in Bad Homburg once. The nature is wonderful and charming there but thermes I didn't like. (May be because the impression of thermes of B-B were still alive in my memory).

May be you have some other suggestions of places?

When you ask about suggestion of places, what is it that you are most seeking? (history? nature? thermes? large city? small town? etc.)

I will list a few thermes that I like (I have been to 10+) and they are in attractive areas. However they are not like Baden-Baden, which is in itself unique (it is called Baden-baden bath-bath!)

Weinheim (near Heidelberg):

Bueren (Swabian Albs):

NYNM, thank you from my heart! On Monday I will study these links.

Do I understand right that Baden-Baden is more outstanding then others?
