Zurich to Cologne by train

I'm planning a trip by train but am thinking of getting off the train somewhere along the line and getting a boat up to Cologne.

I'm looking for tips on good locations for this or any other ideas.

Thanks

For things to see and do in the first German state you will enter, Baden-Wuerttemberg ( www.tourismus-bw.de ; www.schloesser-und-gaerten.de ), have a look at my posts in https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g18727… which has several weeks' worth of excellent things to see and do.

The only stretch of the Rhine where it is worth taking a boat rather than a train is Rüdesheim/Bingen to Boppard. The rest of it is, frankly, boring.

The most scenic stretch by boat is from Bingen to St. Goar or Boppard. This is also the most frequently served part.
