Are there villas for rent in area near Heidelberg?

We were hoping to find a villa to rent near Heidelberg for 7-8 people for the week of Christmas. I feel like I have exhausted all of the villa rental websites (both English and German) and am not finding much for a group of our size. Perhaps I am searching for something which doesn't exist? Ideally, we would like something quaint and rustic from which to base our day trips to the Christmas markets in Heidelberg and Nuremberg. Can you tell me, does such a thing exist in Germany or are those sorts of villas only available in France and Italy? Are there other German cities I should try? We don't want to go further than around a 6 hour drive from Amsterdam due to a pregnant friend who will be traveling with us. Please help us come up with a good plan for Christmas! Thanks in advance.

Probably. At least I'm not aware of. Typical are rather vacation apartments for 2-4 persons. Maybe 5 or 6. If someone really has a villa for this purpose he will rather turn in into 2 or 3 vacation apartments. This will also probably the best solution in your case, i.e. renting 2 vacation apartments at the same place.

You may contact the regional tourist offices directly. They at least would know if something similar to what you're looking for exists.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by villa - if you're looking for nice apartments of varying sizes you may want to take a look at

www.vacationvillas.net

&

www.vrbo.com

We rent apartments in Europe regularly and use these sites as well as several others. You may have to rent several apartments together for your party of 7-8 people but that shouldn't be a problem. Perhaps by villa you mean a fantastic home with someone available to do the cooking, cleaning, etc. which you probably will not find on either of the above sites.

Hope this helps.

Here I've something which maybe suitable for you.

Castle Lohrbach near Mosbach

They have a number of specious vacation apartments (e.g. up to 245 square meters for 2-7 persons).

The castle has been renovated just a few years ago. At least the exterior is really nice (never been inside this castle). Don't let deter you by the (awful) selfmade homepage of the owners.

Hi Abalada, Thanks very much for sending the Schloss castle link -- that was the very first place I saw when I began my research but it appeared to be completely booked. I went through the link you provided (which was different from the one I had found) and lo and behold, there were some vacancies. I am so pleased b/c I had pretty much given up on finding anything. I will post a review upon our return and let you know how the interior accommodations are.

Thanks again to you and the other person who responded. Cheers,Specialspice

Just wanted to confirm that the schloss-lohrbach was a good place to stay. Not the easiest to find (no signage) and the manager was friendly but doesn't speak much English, but our apartment (#4) was huge and accommodating. it's about 45 minutes from Heidelberg and the drive is picturesque along the Neckar river. I think it is an ideal place for a group to come and rent several apartments. If you stay there, travel 20 minutes away to the quaint German town of Bad Wimpfen -- beautiful! Thanks again for the suggestion!
