Drive from Strasbourg to Munich

We are driving from Strasbourg, FR to Munich at the end of March. Any recommendations for sights/towns to stop at along the way? We are planning just a one day drive (on a Sunday).

If you want to visit a nice fairy tale-like castle take the A81 south at Stuttgart to Hechingen and Hohenzollern Castle. It won't be much out of the way. The restaurant at the turnoff for the castle from Hwy 27 is a good place to eat. There also is the same restaurant in the castle.

World heritage Maulbronn monastery a short distance north of Pforzheim is also a nice place to visit. There is a restaurant in the monastery.

The old town part of Esslingen is also very nice. (I don't know if it is sign posted heading east on A8, but the Esslingen exit certainly is.)

For another castle but in ruins, Burg Teck is sign posted along the A8 east of Stuttgart.

There is an excellent fossil museum in Holzmaden east of Stuttgart (sign posted on the A8), just before ascending the Schwaebische Alb. The excellent world famous local fossils are displayed, and there are life-size dinosaur models outside. You can personally dig for fossils in some of the quarries (fee charged).

Ulm has the climbable record height cathedral spire.

I have offered a variety of possibilities, but if you have any particular interests, just ask.
