Skiing week before Christmas

We are planning to spend a week before Christmas and Christmas in French Alps. It seems that Val d'Isere, Val Thorens or Chamonix are most likely to have good snow. We are flying from NYC, is our best option going via Geneva, Lyon or Turin ? Do people typically take a train or drive ?

Hi Petunka,

I went skiing in Val d'Isere on Saturday and as it's so high the snow in the areas that are open is in great condition! The snow cannons have been on in the busiest pistes - more snow is due at the end of the week, keep checking snow-forecast.com!

For Chamonix the nearest airpotrt is Geneva and you can book transfers by minibus from there. For Val Thorens or Val d'Isere the best airport is Chambery, followed by Lyon. I think that there is a public bus service from Lyon or various airport transfer companies would cover both airports.

The train isn't convenient from either place as you still need to take a bus up in to the montains.

AFAIK there are no transfers from Turin - it is the wrong side of the Alps.
