No room at the inns?

We're hoping to have one night in Chamonix, June 24, but are not finding any accomodations. What happens in Chamonix during that last week in June? We had hoped to spend one night in Chamonix or nearby in order to take the lift to 'step into the void' first thing the morning of the 25th. Any suggestions for room locations would be most appreciated. Thanks to all who reply.

Your dates clash with the Mont Blanc Marathon so that may be why you are struggling to find availability for just one night. If you can come earlier or later you may have more luck, although bear in mind that later you will be coming into the higher summer season of July.

Well...thank you very much for that information. Now the lack of rooms makes sense. We just yesterday secured a room in Les Blossons at Hotel Aiguille du Midi for June 24. Our main reason for going to Chamonix is to view the mountains, not hike them, and to take the cable car up to 'step into the void.' It sounds as if there might be hoards of visitors doing the same thing, as well as filling restaurants and streets. Is it a huge marathon with thousands of runners and their families and friends? We're pondering if we can revise our schedule which is only eight nights for Geneva, Chamonix, Aosta, Italy, and Annecy, France, because of the crowds in Chamonix --- or go with the flow and enjoy the festivities? We're very active seniors.

Thank you, again, for enlightening us!

The marathon takes place in the mountains around Chamonix, and the event attracts many visitors to town. You may need to book a restaurant but I would't let you put you off. It is cool to watch all the runners at the start of the races and see the finishers come in. There are not that many spectators clogging up the town as most of the visitors are runners.

You will not even notice the weekend's events at the Hotel Aiguille de Midi.

Thanks, moo963 for your information. We agree we'll get into the spirit and enjoy the event. As for restaurants, we're happy making a picnic. One night will certainly be manageable. We are just hoping for good weather on the following morning so we can enjoy the lift ride and the magnificent views.

We'll be heading south through the Mont Blanc Tunnel. Do you think there'll be long delays going south during the marathon?

Do you happen to know much about Courmayer or Aosta? We've booked two night in Aosta and will be exploring the outlying villages.

Thanks, again, for your information.
