Day Trip May 20th

Planing to come to Chamonix for 1 day, May 20th. Lokking to do hiking. Anything open at this time? How is the weather?

Thanks

The only lifts open will be the Aiguille du Midi and the Montenvers train. A nice idea might be to take the two cable cars up to the top of the Aiguille du Midi. Then take one down and get off at the Plan Aiguille. Walk from here to Montenvers on the Grand Balcon Nord and get the Montenvers train down to Chamonix from there:

The above is all weather and snow dependent though. At the moment we are experiencing unseasonably cold and snowy conditions.

Weather is very unpredictable but check here closer to the time:

I don't think that walk will be passable by May 20th though - you'll probably be looking at some lower walks like the petit Balcons or Lac Vert in Servoz. The best option is to check the weather nearer the time, and drop in at the tourist office or ask here, again, much nearer the time.

Tend to agree with Firebug the snow levels , especially , on north facing slopes at 2000m should still be quite high.

We are still getting snow at the moment and I doubt that the 2m or so at 2000m will have melted.

Whatever you do do not walk across snowfields it is extremely dangerous.
