Could you be a bit more precise?

OK, you are on a cruise only 1 day in Marseille 8/29/2013? Any nights?

So your question is; "Is the 8 hour tour sold by the cruise line worth it?" What do they offer? Is it more like a whirl wind sprint througha part of Provence?

If you dock in the morning and leave that night, and choose not to do the tour, then stay close to not sit in traffic and worry about getting back on the ship.

Marseille: eat bouillabaisse Chez Fonfon; or go to Petit Nice Passedat expensive, high end creative; or have a real couscous; or a merguez french frie sandwich... ;-D. Take a boat ride to the calanques; go to Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde; La Major Cathedral then see art at l'Hopital de la Vieille Charite, they will certainly have an expo.

Or go to Aix-en-Provence see the Cezanne museum; go to the second oldest cafe of France "Les Deux Garcons" and enjoy being "mistreated" by the waiters, stroll down le Cours Mirabeau, buy Puyricard chocolate, enjoy shopping at all the high end french designer boutiques....

Cassis is a great option. Either rent a car, and it should be a 40 minute drive, or take the shuttle to Gare Saint Charles then the train to Cassis.thanfully, the train station is a a few kilometers from the village. There is a shuttle or taxis wait for every train.

Cassis is not St Tropez: not much glitz and glam and no designer shops. Restaurants, boutiques, the calanques of course.
