One day in Villefranche-sur-Mer and Nice

Our cruise stops for one day in Villefranche. We plan to look around Villefranche first; then go to the Villa Ephrussi de Rothchild; and then to Nice.

Based on the map, it looks like Vilefranche is in between the other two locations. Can we do both trips on a train or will a bus be required?

Thanks for your help.

Maxine.

Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is located between two train stations (Villefranche and Beaulieu-Sur-Mer)... the second one is slightly closer to the Villa Ephrussi.

Villefrance is connected by train to Nice (a short ride); and many trains run throughout the day. Since you have one day for all of this, probably you will have the afternoon / early evening for a visit to Nice... strolling on its Promenade Des Anglais and exploring the Old Town.

Thank you Sherif. It sounds like we should be able to spend time in all three locations.

One additional question: will we need a cab to reach the Villa Rothchild from the train station, or is it walking distance?

Thank you.

I can't really tell, wait till you are there to decide about cabs...

I drove to Clearwater many years ago while in Florida, and remember it as a pleasent place.

Villa Ephrussi is about 1.5 miles from where you will arrive in Villefranche. If you enjoy walking there are few more beautiful strolls anywhere in the world. There is taxi rank within 50 yards of the dock. I hope you are not disappointed when you get there. I would grade it as a third rate museum with very little to see.

There are long gaps between the trains to and from Nice, so please check times in advance on www.regionpaca.fr

Our family spent a week in Nice last year. There is a bus that connects Villefranche with the old town section of Nice. This will be far preferable for you because the train station is on the other side of Nice and will necessitate a long walk to the Old Town and the Promenade des Anglais... both near the sea front. Just ask someone in Villefrance where to catch the bus and then tell the driver you want the old town stop. You'll need euros in small denominations to pay the driver (they will give you change if you need it) and the bus will get you there in only 10 or 15 minutes.

Hi Maxine, we will be on a one day stop too in Villefranche. I have been there before and it is a lovely quaint town. Be sure to walk the "rue obsqure", this is a road, built underground. We will take the train to Monaco this time. We will be on the ship Celebrity Century.

I would recommend the train trip to Monaco-Monte Carlo since the station there is very central. Villefranche station is a short walk from the docks.

Bus 81 from Nice brings you to the door of the Villa (almost) if you get down at the «Passable» stop.

Thanks for all the information. We spent quite a bit of time in Monte Carlo on our last trip, so look forward to seeing some new places. Can't wait to see the Villa and to spend some time in Villefranche and Nice.

Again, thanks for the help.
