Easiest is Uber or taxi.

There is an express bus that goes to Nice, although I don't know if it goes on to Villefranche or if you have to switch in Nice.

You can also walk about 10 min from airport to the train. Not a pretty walk and a pain with luggage.

The train goes from Nice St Augustin station which is as Doby says a 10 minute walk from Terminal 1 (plus free shuttle bus if coming from Terminal 2). Costs 2.80 euro and takes only 15 minutes.

One problem is that Villefranche is so vertical ..the station is near the coastline ..you may have a severe uphill struggle to your ultimate destination.

A taxi or uber is easiest and will obviously bring you door to door and will cost 50 euro up.

Re: "Villefranche is so vertical"....it certainly is. After driving from Rome to our apartment in VSM we parked our car and took taxis every where we could not walk which was not a bad rate for our group of four.

We took the train from Nice St Augustin to Villefranche and found it pretty easy. First buy your tickets in the Arrivals part of the airport since the station is tiny and requires use of a ticket machine in French with coins or chip enabled credit card. The walk is on level ground, so if you have wheeled luggage it is easy. Upon arrival in Villefranche we walked down the steps toward the beach. From there it was another level walk along the waterfront to the Welcome Hotel. (Depending on your hotel or apartment it could be a difficult uphill climb.)

If you arrive into Nice by ocean liner, the quickest and best way to get to Villefranche is by taxi. There was a service as we disembarked the ship that provided a wonderful taxi service that arrived within minutes that took us right into the heart of Villefranche Sur Mer. This is a beautiful and quiet spot to visit with lovely little shops, cafes and restaurants especially if you are on limited time. The return trip however is a little more tricky. DO NOT leave your return trip for the last minute. The taxi service from Villefranche back to Nice is not so easy. The taxis that operate in Villefranche do not necessarily work outside of the town. At one of the local taxi ranks there was a little green box with a number on it that you have to call to get a cab but the box had a lock on it that was impossible to open. After many unsuccessful attempts at asking shop-owners and staff for help, a taxi pulled up but however was reluctant to drive us to Nice. We explained our situation and eventually he decided to help us but also explained that Nice cabs drive into Villefranche, but Villefranche cabs do NOT drive to Nice. A funny system, but that's the way it is. Thankfully we didn't leave it up to the last minute and returned to the ship in plenty of time.

But few ocean liners call at the Port of Nice; most cruise passengers arrive at Villefranche itself.

WStravel11-- I'm not sure I'm following you. First of all very very few ships dock in Nice. Most tender in Villefranche-- some in Cannes or Monaco. Secondly the taxi stand in Villefranche is near the tender dock along the quai. Taxi drivers WILL take you anywhere you want to go. It will be an expensive rip off, but they go to Nice regularly.
