Bicycle rental in Nice

One of the postings mentioned that Nice was fairly flat. Wondering if bicycle rental for leisurely biking makes sense, in terms of bicycle routes or lanes? Any particular rental companies to recommend?

Thank you.

have hired a bicycle from a place on the Promenade, somewhere between the Negresco and the Casino, can't remember exactly, beware of the drivers in Nice, they are wreckless, although there are cycle lanes on the actual Prom.

Biking here is not bad. The dedicated for-bikes-only infrastructure is nowhere near the more elaborated networks you can find in, say, Germany, but getting around is no problem. I use my bike more often than my car, feeling safe. Trips e.g. Nice- Monaco have been covered in previous posts.

I am a life long cyclist and have cycled in many parts of Europe, Asia and the US. I often ride my bike close to Nice but I draw the line at cycling in Nice itself which has some of the worst drivers I have come across anywhere. You will see that almost all cars in Nice are damaged. A bump when you are riding a bike is rather more serious! Apart from the Promenade Des Anglais there are no dedicated cycle routes and, in any case, the interesting parts of the city cover a small area easily doable on foot.

Hi

Was looking at cycling down in Nice when I go down to my brother's house there, although I do appreciate the lack of paths apart from the one on Promenade. Are there any dedicated route out of town towards Villefranche, or the other way?

Cheers

I went cycling from Villefranche today and, as ever, was struck by how considerate drivers are compared to those in the UK. There is a cyclist/pedestrian path for part of the way from Nice to Villefranche. Don't know how fit you are? There is wonderful, virtually traffic free cycling once you leave the coast road but this is a very hilly area indeed. I was touching 55mph down from Col D'Eze today. I don't do that in Hampshire.

Got down last night, so am going to wander over to Villefranche and back over Mount Boron. The only bit that concerns me is climbing the hill to the East of the Old Port, which as I remember has no cycle lane. Thanks for your help

Hi

There is a new guided cycle tour just stated in Nice. I went on it with my girlfriend and we had a great time. Its 3 hours long and you cover about 10km. You get to see all the main attraction of Nice and learn some of its history.

Well worth doing.

Lots of places to hire bikes - rue cassini by the Port or a few places along the Prom and by the train station.

Here's the cycling map for Nice:

We rode our bikes to the airport the other day, it's about 40 minutes (very steadily!)I *believe* you can cycle all the way to Cagnes sur Mer from the prom

I did the bike tour mentioned by another poster with nicecycletours.com and really enjoyed it. I wrote a review here:
