Suggestion for home base, flying in to Nice.

Hi,

Would like some suggestions for town/village to use as a home base. Will fly in to Nice and rent a car (one week in April). Looking for a beautiful town with restaurants etc as a home base for a week stay. First time visiting.

Thank you!

What are you looking for? Beach, history, coast, inland, large or small town? We can't begin to offer suggestions with what you have given us.

Hi,

It is for a couple in their 70's (good shape). They are looking for a smaller town/village with charm . Some history and restaurants. They are planning to stay busy and drive to see different towns but would like to use one spot to use as a base. Could be inland.

Thanks again, sorry cannot be more specific yet.

Unfortunately, the request is so vague that it is impossible to answer. There would be several dozen places that could suit.

Still really nothing to work with.

Since you posted in the Cote d'Azur Forum, I will stick with that. Antibes might work...it is quite flat and would be OK for a couple in their 70's to walk around in. Not too big...not too small. Lots of restaurants, galleries, museums etc. Lovely old town and in April...no huge challenges with parking.

Not sure if it is the OP travelling or the OP is doing research for someone else. Whoever it is should invest some time and energy in a guide book. The Michelin Green Guide to the Cote d'Azur is a ggod one.

Look at Vence:

Vence is inland and close to St.Paul de Vence., Along the coast, Antibes might be a fit:

Consider also the pretty small town of Valbonne and the village of Biot.

As always, good recs, Catullus, love both places, particularly Valbonne. Particularly for inland choices. So hard to give any kind of recs when the OP has given so little to work with.

Another recommendation for Vence; a lovely lively town with plenty of places to eat, a good market and atmosphere. Also, good for exploring the coast and mountains above Nice.

Vence, will be best for the Nice-Cannes area. With a car most interesting places are fast and easy to access. It's 15 min to the highway, 30 min to Nice town-centre, same with Antibes. Its not crowded, has a car-free historic centre, easy to walk.

Antibes is more "seaside", but will be difficult to drive in and out during rush-hours. And they have rush-hours!

Surprised that Mouans-Sartoux has not come up yet ;)

Well, here is Mouans-Sartoux! Lodgings are harder to find in that town than in Valbonne or Biot, although there's quite a lot in the area in and below Grasse.
