first time to Paris, then to Lourdes, then to French Rivera-

Looking for tips, suggestions on travel and hotels. We have two weeks, thinking 3-4 Paris, 2-3 days Lourdes then French Rivera, looking for great hotel resort to end vacation and best way to travel to coast from Lourdes.

According to www.raileurope.co.uk there are 3 departures a day by train from Lourdes to St Raphael/Cannes/Nice. They all involve a change in Toulouse and the journey takes between 8hrs30 and 11hours30 overall (it's a long way). The standard advice seems to be that you get access to cheaper fares and more choice if you clear cookies and claim that your country is the UK or Ireland.

Is it possible to skip Lourdes? Paris to Nice by plane is only one hour and very reasonable. We fly Air France for 120 Euro round trip. Discount airlines like Easy Jet are less but watch the numerous add ons for luggage, etc.

We stay at the Welcome Hotel in Villefrance for 170 euros (see the icon by my name). Air conditioning, private balcony over the harbor, and easy access by train or bus to Monte Carlo, Nice, Cannes, Antibes, etc.

HappyJack-- In response to your other questions:

The train, the bus, or taxi all work depending on your comfort level. About 20 minutes to the hotel from the airport. Most travelers recommend not getting a rental car.

I took french in high school many years ago and basically can say please and thank you. Most everyone speaks some english in france. It won't be a problem.

We are using "points" to stay at a fairly expensive place in Paris-- Hotel Esprit St. Germain. You don't want to know about our last Paris hotel...
