The cost varies greatly! so you have to wander along the [Garavan] beach and look at the sandwich-board signs to see today's rates. i went in mid-afternoon and tried bargaining the price down, unsuccessfully. but did not have to pay an unreasonable amount ... sorry, can't remember which club other than that it was well along as you walk east. the price might have been 8-10 euros in late September, i think, maybe somewhat more or less. some charge more for an umbrella. the minimum should include loungers, table and shower access. of course no problem ordering from the bar :-)

It also depends on the time of year. It has been my experience that the prices are more flexible / negotiable is the shoulder seasons.

Thank you. We will be there in late June. Another year we went to the beach in Nice, Antibes, and Cap Ferrat - and I remember it

being pricey as compared to Italy and Greece.

Just a reminder for tourists here that 80% of all beaches are by law public and free in France. ( this is totally different from the situation in Italy). Where there are restaurant concessions you pay for matresses and parasols but you are free to walk on the sand and swim in front. Normal charges range for matresses and parasols from 15 to 25 euro a day depending on location and fashionability.

In Antibes ( mentioned erroneously above as 'pricey') there are , in fact, no private beaches - all are public and free - except for one tiny space and pontoon at the Royal Hotel on Plage de la Salis.

We usually go with the chaise & umbrella rental (including Antibes) as we travel with very small suitcases so carrying blankets, mats, chairs and umbrellas to use at the free beaches would be very difficult.

Further to Eds, comments-It is often cheaper to buy a parasol and mats , lilos or even cheap loungers at a big supermarket or other shop than to buy a day's private beach access.

Its not as if your private beach money gets you carried on to the beach on the shoulders of nubile young men and fed peeled grapes.

You are on a loungers pretty close to other folk , with no option to move the thing around.to a better spot.

And you are not allowed to bring in your own snacks or drinks .
