I would suggest that you take one of the boat trips to Iles des Lerins, or both, if you have the time. They're separate trips, and here are the links to how you can do this:

what do you have in mind when you say ''Gardens or parks''?

something beautifully designed and laid out?

somewhere to sit with a sandwich?

or something else?

Yes, Yes and Yes.

My primary concern is the harbor location and some shade.

Thank you.

I think I remember benches along the Croisette in the near the boules court and the carrousel.

There are benches in this area, and also along the coastal sidewalk fronting La Croisette. If the boat trip is too far, you will be able to find resting spots with some lovely coastal views. Look for the sand sculpturers that you can view over the wall past Le Palais. They're awesome!

You can walk all along the Croisette or take the no. 8 Palm Beach bus (top deck is open). There is a beautiful park full of palms and an extensive public beach and yacht marina at that end. Also snack bars and it is much less crowded there.

Cannes is a garden town with parks and gardens throughout.

I am assuming you mean the old harbor - there are two ports in Cannes - the old one near the old town Le Suquet and the more modern Port Canto towards Palm Beach.

The suggestion of taking a boat trip to one or both of the Isles de Lérins is a good one, but if you want to remain on dry land

There are various small squares with benches, shade and some green/ palm trees/ some lawned areas scattered around the centre of Cannes .

For example there are benches, trees and a green area at the end of Quai laubeuf from where the ferry service to the Isles de Lérins runs, and at the small Square Mistral further along Bd Jean Hibert direction Mandelieu.

As Ed mentions, at the new the Port Canto end of la Croisette there is a marina with gardens and green areas, benches snack bars etc.

Opposite the railway station on the other side of the voie rapide is the small Square de Verdun and Jardin d'Armenie

Other park areas near the old harbour include the Jardins du Suquet on rue Louis Perrisol

For something larger, Parc Mero was recently reopened after an upgrade - it's on the avenue de Grasse across the voie rapide above the old port

The Villa Rothschild which lies in a beautiful protected environment at the foot of the Croix des Gardes parc on avenue Jean de Noailles, (off Avenue Picaud, the road to Cannes la Bocca) may interest you too. Together with its gardens it is a listed historical site.

Villa Rothschild is now the main Cannes library. It is a 19th century neoclassical building on 5 floors, surrounded by a park with ancient named palm trees and exotic and Mediterranean plants.

Open Tue to Sat 08.00-15.00, admission free
