Fabulous Restaurants - Cannes, St. Tropez, Nice, Monte Carlo

Looking for great places to dine while visiting Cannes, St. Tropez, Nice and Monte Carlo next month.

Not looking for super fancy -- good food, good people watching to take in all the sights and feel of the place.

Merci!

In Nice, try La Voglia, a fine Italian restaurant right on the corner of the Cours Saléya by the entrance to the underground car park. If you like seafood, head to the Café de Turin, near the modern-art museum.

In Cannes, we love La Pizza, down by the marina. Much more than pizza, good as it is.

Anything more upscale in Cannes? Something for sea food lovers?

<<Anything more upscale in Cannes? Something for sea food lovers?>>

There are many restaurants in Cannes that are more upscale and most serve seafood :))

Seafood specialists include (in no particular order) :

Coquillages Brun,on the corner of Felix Faure and Louis Blanc but the ambience and surroundings are fairly basic. Other restaurants in the same strip on rue Felix Faure serve good seafood in more upscale surroundings too .

Gaston Gastounette on Quai St Pierre

A la Maree bd Jean Hibert

Caprices des Mers on the restaurant street rue du Suquet

Beach restaurants including Ondine plage and Miramar plage on the Croisette

....and many more.

Perhaps check the reviews and wander round checking menus to find one that appeals

Enjoy!

One addition to Soooz's list: Consider taking the #1 (local) bus to the historic district in Le Cannet, a town a short distance away and above Cannes. Several restaurants have tables on its terrace and you can enjoy a sweeping view down to the coastline. We've enjoyed Le Coin Gourmet, but I don't think you will go wrong with any of the other restaurants.

Here is my list of restaurants I've enjoyed in Cannes, most of which have been mentioned by previous contributors, and links to their TA reviews:

Le Cannet. LOVED their seafood risotto.

Light meals. Wonderful salads, especially the seafood salad and the Salade Nicoise. Close to Le Martinez.

On the beach. Another good place for seafood risotto.

I enjoyed lunch here, especially the crab salad and prosciutto wrapped melon. The Cannes location is on Rue Feliz Faure and there is also a Nice location in Cours Salaya:

Fresh seafood that is prepared on the sidewalk around the corner from the restaurant...it's that fresh! Located (as Sooz mentioned) on the corner of Felix Faure and Louis Blanc :

Good pizzas and salads. Located around the corner near past the harbor from Le Palais. Look for the red awning:

Elegant dinner on Le Croisette. What I remember most enjoying were the tartare selections:

There is, of course, one of the most famous and celebrated restaurants in the world, Le Palme d'Or, located on Le Martinez:

Beware of frozen seafood being passed off as fresh at the touristy restaurants. I have lived here almost ten years. There was a report on a local channel showcasing all of the frozen seafood boxes awaiting garbage pickup in the morning at many of the pricier restos - La Croisette anyone? There is only one place that I will eat seafood in Cannes - Astoux et Brun. Pricey but you know what you are getting. Bon appetit!

I've lived here many years. While Cannes has many restaurants the majority are for tourists. I'm happy to share these little treasures with you. Let's get local now. All are reasonable with regard to pricing.

My first choice is: La Cave 9 Boulevard de la République 04 93 99 79 87

Make a reservation if you want to be sure to eat. This small place fills up. Provence cuisine. Owned by the same family for many years.

Next: Cristal at the Cristal Hotel 15 Rond-point Duboys d'Angers

Great lunch menu - French Cuisine. Nice guy from Kentucky waits there.

Last but not least - Cave Croisette 151 Rue Antibes 04 92 59 14 22

Wonderful for lunch or dinner. French cuisine. Champagne and wine bottles everywhere. The blond lady at the door is very nice. Tell her the American sent you. Reserve if you want to be sure.

Bon appetit!!

Some interesting selection of restaurants

I am on the verge of booking the Le Palme D'Or as I really want to go there but I am not all that convinced by the menu.

The wife and I have been to a number of Michelin Star restaurants and therefore would like to try this one but I am not too sure. I have managed to get a seat on the terrace but I am having second thoughts due to the reviews on here and it is clearly overpriced, even for Michelin Star standards. The chateaubriand for 280 Euros seems extreme to me but the venue is sucking me in.

I have looked for other high end restaurants on the web but this one keeps popping up all the time mainly due to its "star" status.

The other one i have looked at is Le Petite Maison de Nicole at the Hotel Majestic Barriere. it looks very nice and has outdoor seating which is what we are looking for in the evening. It also has more selection on the menu. Not as high end as Le Palme D'Or but it seems to have everything. I cant seem to find any reviews on this one though which is strange.

The final one is Le Park 45 at Le Grand Hotel. This seems to be having great reviews and has outdoor seating but looks onto gardens. Venue doesnt do much for me though.

Anyone give me any tips on what to choose?

People watching, nice venue, menu choice, high end are factors

Most Michelin-starred restaurants are expensive, although occasionally we've had the good luck to eat at a 1-star that was outstanding.

If you have a car, I have 2 recommendations:

1. Daniel Desavie, on the Cannes/Valbonne road. Lovely little place with excellent food and really superior atmosphere and service.

1. Lou Fassum, in the hamlet of Plascassier, not far from Grasse. It has 1 Michelin star and an outdoor terrace with views down to the Mediterranean. We had an amazing tasting menu there with French friends.
