TGV station, car rental drop-off, and hotel reservation

We will be finishing a two week driving tour of Provence, and heading from Avignon by TGV/EuroStar to London in mid-April. We plan on leaving by train on Sunday early a.m. We intend to drive into Avignon on Saturday afternoon, drop off our luggage at the Adagio Access Hotel near the TGV station, then go and drop off the car at the TGV car rental office. Thereafter, we shall take the shuttle into the city center for supper and return to the TGV station later that evening and walk back to the hotel. Doing it this way, we should be able to walk or at worst hire a taxi to get us to the TGV a.m. on Sunday a.m. I know that staying inside Avignon may be more pleasant, but it is for one night only, and we shall still be able to take advantage of the restaurants in town while having proximity to the TGV station. Does anyone see any problems with our plans, or any suggestions on how to do it better. Thanks in advance, George.

Some of the car rental companies have offices in Avignon City, and this might be a more convenient place to drop the car. You don't have to drop where you pick up.

The shuttle between Avignon Centre and Avignon TGV is now by train rather than bus.

If they're staying near the TGV station, why would they want to drop off the car in the city? Avignon, IMO, is not an easy city to get in and out of; I'd get rid of the car at the TGV station while they are nearby leaving their luggage at the hotel.

If they'd be staying at a hotel in the city, that would be a different story.

They say that, the evening when they arrive, they intend to take the shuttle from the TGV station into Avignon City. It might be easier to drive from the hotel into the city to drop the car.

On second thought, I would stay at a hotel in the city near the car drop off, and simply take a taxi to the TGV station the next morning. Early Sun. morning, i don't think it would take more than 12 min. or so, and it would save a lot of running back and forth.

I second that last thought from grandmere3, by far the most practical option, and best of all worlds as you get to stay somewhere nice in the middle of things for your last night in France. It really is no distance from the centre of Avignon to the TGV station.

Thanks to all who offered their suggestions. We shall look at getting a hotel inside Avignon and then shuttle to the TGV.
