Chateaus and castles--where are they?

I am finding either chateaus to stay in as hotels and ruins of castles. Are there any chateaus that are open for tourist visits or castles that are still somewhat intact and open for tourists.

thank you

Provence is not an area of France which is known for its châteaux. However you can visit the Palais des Papes in Avignon (not exactly a château but close to a royal residence none the less) or the city of Aigues Mortes which is a well preserved walled city.

Les Beaux, near St Remy, contains a ruined castle that has view of the ocean. for intact chateaus you might think about the Loire area
